Clinton freshman, Hunter Nichols, qualified for the AAA state golf tournament by shooting a 76 at the upper state tournament Monday afternoon at The Fort Mill Country Club.
Nichols opened with a birdie on the first hole but quickly fell to four over par after seven holes. Nichols kept his cool and rebounded by sinking nine pars, one birdie, and only one bogey on the final 11 holes to secure a spot in the AAA state tournament to be held in North Myrtle Beach on May 16 and 17.
On his player's performance, Coach Chris Wofford commented, "Hunter did a great job of keeping his composure when things were not going well and just kept with the game plan that he set for himself and it paid off for him in the end."
