The junior varsity girls took on the Union County Yellow Jackets on Friday night, winning 37-11.
Clinton jumped out to a 6-0 lead, and Union scored one basket late in the first quarter to end that quarter, up 6-2. The second quarter saw Clinton use its half court pressure to open up the game and take a 20-4 lead, at the half.
Evaluating her team’s first half performance, Coach Webb said, “I was pleased with out pressure defense, because it opened up the game and gave us a ‘breathing room’ there.”
Coming back in the second half, Clinton utilized a full court press and continued to increase their lead by making fast-break layups and foul shots. The third quarter ended, with Clinton leading 33-7.
There was not much scoring in the fourth quarter, as Clinton tried to run as much time as possible off the clock, but both teams managed to score four points in the final quarter, with Clinton winning 37-11.
Coach Jo Webb commented, “I’m always proud of our effort, our hustle and this week we have done an excellent job rebounding. We got good quality minutes out of each player.”
Clinton will host Greer on Tuesday, January 31, beginning at 6:00.
