Raiders knock out Red Devils, 79-45

Luquon Choice outscored the Clinton Red Devils 15-11 in the first quarter to pace the Laurens Raiders to a lopsided 79-45 win on Friday night at LDHS.

Choice’s 15 points were a part of a 26-11 run by the Raiders in the opening quarter. Michael Sinkler and Alex Mills scored seven points combined in the first stanza that would set the tone for the remainder of the night.

Already up 15 to start the second quarter, Mills, Chrishawn Guest, Choice and Sinkler reeled off a 10-2 run to give Laurens a whopping 36-13 lead with 4:26 left to play in the first half. The Red Devils struggled to stay in the game in the first half, down 43-22 after the first 16 minutes of play.

The second half was much the same. Laurens continued to have success shooting the three and getting to the foul line in transition. In the third quarter, Sinkler, Mills and Khadajah Irby kept the Raiders on top 59-35. Keenan Caldwell had a strong third quarter for the Red Devils, scoring six of their 13 points.

Clinton managed just two field goals in the fourth quarter with the remainder of their points coming from the free throw line. Laurens continued their offensive onslaught, outscoring Clinton 20-10 in the final period. Dre Cunningham and Khalid Taylor scored six points each to secure the 79-45 win for the Raiders.

Luquon Choice led Laurens with 24 points. Mills and Sinkler each scored 13 points and Cunningham added 10 points. The remainder of the scoring for Laurens included: Taylor-6, Guest-5, Roberson-3, Irby-2, Billups-2, Boyce-1.

Clinton was led by Caldwell with 10 points. Van Nibert scored seven points and Devaris Burton chipped in six points. The remainder of the Clinton scoring included: Glenn-5, Gary-4, Lee-4, Wimphrie-4, Adams-2.

Laurens will travel to Clinton for a rematch on Tuesday at 7:30pm.
